The Shanghai Hong Kou Stadium contains an honorable history for 46 years and also was the first stadium holding the international competition in China. It was rebuilt and completed on February 22, 1999 and became the first standard and professional football stadium in China It is used as the host stadium of Shanghai Shenhua FC since then. In 1991, the First Marlboro Shanghai International Football Tournament was held in the Hong Kou Stadium while this year the Shanghai International Football Tournament will be back to this homeland after a long time apart.

Arena

With a land area of 56,000 square meters and a total floor area of 72,000 square meters, Hong Kou Football Stadium has the main function of holding high level domestic and international football matches as well as different shows and concerts. What's more? The stadium also provides entertainment and fitness facilities to meet public needs and to promote nationwide-building activities. So the stadium can be valued as a complex of athletics sports, shows and concerts, public leisure, fitness and entertainment activities.

The stadium provides a 70 meter by 105 meter FIFA standard natural grass football pitch. The grass system was imported from the US with heating and circularly irrigation to ensure the watering in dry environment and heating in cold weather all year long.

Stands

Totally there are 22 stands with maximum 35,000 seats, among them there are also some specialized seats for disabled people. Thanks to the double layered roof of the stadium, the audience can be entertained in a comfortable environment, whether the conditions are cold, rainy or sunny. 834 seats are set at the VIP Section with special seats for VIP guests. In front of the VIP Section, 32 senior journalist seats are set with telephone, television and USB interfaces to ensure the rapid and accurate transfer of information.

Between layer one and layer two of the stands, you will see 47 VIP boxes of 70 or 45 meters squared per room. There is a reception hall of more than 300 square maters at the west entrance and 2 VIP rest rooms of about 180 square meters, decorated in Chinese and western styles as well as one 180 square VVIP box.

Facility

The stadium provides domestic and overseas synchronous broadcast facilities and eight camera positions, as well as parking space for the broadcast van. Moreover, there are also broadcast facilities with fax machine and domestic direct-dial phones for journalists, match commissioners and referee coordinators.

There are 4 player locker rooms of 128 square meters with shower facilities. Besides that, there are another 2 rooms with the same facilities for referees and one 180 square meter room for general coordinators, one 350 square meter examining hall with a medic and drug testing room conjoined with a 300 square meter indoor training room with modern facilities.

The energy center consists of energy collocation, management and transfer with 2 steam boilers imported from the UK as well as 3 central air conditioners imported from the US. All are computer controlled to insure effective monitoring. Underneath the east stand, there is a three layered garage with 253 parking spaces and an outside parking lot with a 500 vehicle capacity.
